Urban oasis garden
This gold medal winning garden at the 2007 Chelsea Flower Show is a conceptual garden representing an open space in an urban setting. It was created to raise awareness of new environmental technologies and how they can be used to sustain and enhance a garden.
The main feature is a 12-metre high kinetic structure, design by architect Laurie Chetwood, which uses the latest technology to harness daylight and wind power in order to recycle water for irrigation. The main structure plants are yew spheres which provide a striking contrast to the verticality of the sculpture and the soft transparency of the grasses and other planting.
